Add to Search Bar - Firefox
When looking at Firefox add-ons there are quite a lot of big useful ones as well as more minor ones that simply make things easier/better, but aren't overly noticeable. "Add to Search Bar" belongs in the second category as it's not intrusive, yet it makes adding Search Engines so much easier and better.
The simplicity is what makes this add-on so cool and such a must-have. Adding support for the Firefox search engine tool isn't easy as a webmaster (it's picky) and most sites don't offer support. With Add to Search Bar all you do is right click on a search input and select "Add to Search Bar" and then click okay.
That's it! The search engine you just added is automatically selected and you can search away. Very simple, but very useful.
Sxipper - Firefox
Sxipper is a newer, but quite efficient solution to the old age issue of remembering passwords without risking your security. Along with remembering passwords, Sxipper also can auto-fill forms with a "persona" system, remember credit card information securely, easily setup disposable e-mails and a lot more.
The remember password feature in firefox works, but I've encountered numerous sites that it doesn't work with such as my bank, paypal and others. Sxipper doesn't work with 100% of websites, but so far I've encountered just one (usbank) where it has problems with. In combination with Foxmarks which remembers passwords, you can have a nice on-the-go setup where you can use Firefox with numerous computers and not have to enter your passwords.
It can have hitches, just like any program or software ever made, but all in all it works and works very well.
Gmail Notifier - Firefox
Another important addon to have, especially those who have multiple gmail accounts, is a gmail addon which lets you know whenever you have new e-mail. With the latest version of Gmail Notifier, this addon finally belongs as one of the best gmail addons for Firefox.
Simply add your account info and every so often your gmail gets checked and you're notified, simple. You can also manage other account and have several options at your disposal such as playing a .wav sound when you get new email, check mail every x minutes and other options. All in all it's a solid and useful addon, but at the same time there are several addons already available with more features, such as Gmail Manager.
There are also several bugs, just like any addon or piece of software, but for a simple gmail addon to notify you when you get new e-mails and manage multiple gmail accounts, it's worth a download. But if you're looking for a fully featured one, checkout Gmail Manager instead.
Foxmarks - Firefox
With thousands of addons available for Firefox and for so many different purposes, Foxmarks is one of the few that are so useful for multi-pc/multi-os users. The idea of easily synching a database of your bookmarks and with protection, your passwords automatically seems to good to be true, but it isn't.
That's essentially what Foxmarks does. After installing the addon and restarting your browser, your presented to get started. Either a new user or you're already signed up. You can then login with this info (if you sign up through this form) on there website, where you can see all your bookmarks and update your account. Next in the setup you can choose to also have Foxmarks manage your passwords with a password to access these, AES 256-bit encryption for solid security. Lastly you then choose which you want to merge, wipe the bookmarks on your pc or on the site.
After this, Foxmarks requires no further attention. With the option turned on, synchronising is done in the background, automatically. To a normal user, this isn't that important of an addon, however for anyone that uses more than one Operating System and/or more than one computer, this is great to keep your browser data up to date at all times and in a safe and very easy way. The worst I can say is time to time Foxmarks will encounter an error, but it's rare for me and very temporary. It's a plus too with support for Firefox 3.1 Beta versions.
Without a doubt, if you use more than one OS or one PC, this is one of those must-have addons. Well worth the download.
